Thank you for taking the time to be a judge for IPMI’s 2027 awards programs!
We created this list of tips to help all judges rate entries consistently and fairly. As you judge each entry, please try to:
Be consistent with your ratings
Your number rating should take into consideration the quality of the writing and how well the entry responded to the criteria.
- If you rate a section of a submission as a 10, you’re saying the applicant did the best job they could; you do not believe it needs any improvement.
- A rating of 7 tells us you believe that section is good, but not excellent.
- A rating of 5 says you believe that section is average and could be improved.
- A rating of 3 means you think the section is below average and needs a lot of work.
- A rating of 1 tells us that you think this section is very poor.
Keep your “recommend for award” response in line with your number ratings
For Awards of Excellence judges: The Apex Award is given to entries scoring 85 or higher. Those scoring 75 to 84 are eligible for Honorable Mention. Our goal is to award only one Apex Award per category (or sub-category, for those categories that have them).
- If you are recommending an entry for an Apex Award, your overall score must be at least 8. If you are recommending an entry for an Honorable Mention, your overall score must be at least 7.
- When your individual scores for all sections of an entry are tallied and averaged by the judging system, the score must meet or exceed 75 to qualify for an Honorable Mention and meet or exceed 85 to qualify for an Apex Award. Please do not recommend an entry for either award if the scores do not meet these thresholds.
- If only one award is given in any category, it must be an Apex Award. Honorable Mentions are contingent upon the committee’s awarding of an Apex Award in that category.
- If there is only one entry in a particular category, this does not automatically assure a win. It must be judged according to the category's criteria and meet the Apex Award scoring threshold.
For Professional Recognition Awards judges: If you are recommending an entry for a PRA award, your overall score for that entry must be 7 or higher.
If your overall score is 6 but you are recommending the submission for an award, please edit your section scores so that the overall score averages 7 or higher. Similarly, if your overall score is an 8 but you do not recommend the submission for an award, please edit the entry’s section ratings so that the overall score is below a 7.
Understand the recusal process
If you recuse yourself from judging one or more submissions in a category, you must:
- Recuse yourself from judging the entire category. This is to promote a fair judging process and ensures that all submissions are reviewed by the same number of judges.
- Let IPMI staff know by sending an email to awards@parking-mobility.org.
Reasons to recuse yourself from a category include:
- If you or your firm were involved in a project or program nominated for an Award of Excellence.
- If you work for the same organization as a nominee for a Professional Recognition Award.
- If you provided a letter of recommendation or a video testimonial for a nominee for a Professional Recognition Award.
What is not grounds for recusal:
If a submission is from a client or a friend (even a close friend). As a judge, you are expected to be objective and score submissions based on the application, not your personal knowledge of the nominee, applicant, or the applicant’s company.
